Blooming Bird Rock
Posted on May 8, 2017
This month, we explored Bird Rock, a lively neighborhood increasingly known for hip boutiques, coffee shops, and crafted wines along La Jolla Boulevard. Bobbi Rocco carries cool clothing and accessories that won’t bust your budget. On a recent visit, the shop was packed with women snapping up beach bags and booties, denim cut-offs and rompers, slip dresses and swimwear, bodysuits and bling. Owner Christina Sims, who named the boutique after her late father, partners with mother Rosa on the Bobbi Rocco boutiques in Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks, and La Jolla. 858.412.4332, bobbirocco.com • From feminine, floral dresses to edgy, rocker chic tees, Capricorn boutique “strives for unique lines that you won’t find everywhere,” says Krissy Patterson, who opened the boutique ten years ago with longtime friend Lisa Ovadia. The result is a curated collection of casual, contemporary, comfortable pieces that fit the SoCal lifestyle — a silky blouse in sherbet shades from Zadig & Voltaire, a cold-shoulder maxi from MISA, and breezy off-the-shoulder tops and sun dresses by Saylor. Capricorn also carries Jonathan Adler home décor and Nest candles. 858.551.2660 • Michelle “Mimi” Knudson and Rhonda “Red” Begley are old friends who wanted to be their own bosses. So they opened their eponymous boutique, Mimi & Red, in North Park in 2007, expanding to Bird Rock three years later. The shop offers a trendy mix of casual, reasonably priced clothing and accessories from such brands as Amya, Babetown, Boys + Arrows, Glamrocks, Gold Coast, Free People, Festival, and Serenade. 619.298.7933, mimiandred.com Andrea Naversen
