The Grand Idyllwild Lodge is a boutique luxury destination nestled in the charming San Jacinto mountain town of Idyllwild, northeast of San Diego. Brad Rechtfertig, a former San Diego police officer and skilled contractor, built the 9,000-square-foot, nine-bedroom craftsman-style lodge, which his wife, Jacki, previously a nurse at Thornton and Scripps Mercy hospitals, personally decorated. Temperatures can dip below freezing in February, a good reason to cozy up near the lodge’s oversized fireplace.
