Hot Wheels

Hot Wheels

What happens when you take designers from Space X and Ford and tell them to reinvent the wheel? GeoOrbital happens. A universal wheel spoke system that can replace any 26- to 29-inch bike tires, the GeoOrbital is essentially a lithium ion-powered battery generator that charges and stores electricity that can be funneled to electronic devices and the wheel itself. For the former, it houses a USB port for charging cell phones and fitness trackers. For the latter, the wheel can power itself up to 20 mph for nearly 50 miles. The downside is that the GeoOrbital will double the weight of your tire, but that might be a small price to pay for clean, renewable energy and exercise to boot. The GeoOrbital won’t ship for a couple months, but the company is still taking preorders for $699 on its already-funded Kickstarter page. geoo.com
